Machiavelli’s Ascent
December 15th, 2008 by mgkaplan
It’s been awhile, but we’ve been diligently working on three projects. One of which is coming to you soon on the Xbox 360 under the community games. Machiavelli’s Ascent is a vertical platformer where you take on the roll of a negatively buoyant jellyfish who needs oxygen to ascend. We’re submitting to the Community Games on December 19. Check out our box art and look for the game when you get your nice new Xbox 360 this Christmas!

Love the artwork and the concept! Keep it coming.

Wow, it’s more of a piece of interactive art than a game but I love it and bought it. 200 points to acknowledge great style. Although I find the “copyright 2009″ a bit strange.

Just bought this on Xbox Live and must say it’s a pleasure to play. Well worth the asking price and I hope it goes towards whatever you’re planning on next.

Can you ever reach the top?

I’ve gotta say thanks for creating this game
My sister is not normally a gamer, but she likes this game a lot. It’s nice to be able to give my sister something she likes to play! (I like the game too.)

Thank you so much! You made my day!
Your game is really really great, I had lot of fun on the trial version so I decided to buy your game, first community game I bought!
I had a little smile the first time I started your game because I recognized some Garage band samples
Good luck for your others project! If you need someone to translate in french one of your game, I’m here to help
Mail me if you need me, I’ll be pleased to help you.

Machiavelli’s Ascent is beautiful, both as a game and a piece of Art. In it’s Core it reminds me of those typically addictive Highscore-Flashgames you can find on so many Websites.
I don’t know if it is possible to bring Updates for XBL Community Games, but i would really love to see some kind of Online-Leaderboards.
Oh and i like Yoshiki FR’s idea. If you ever need someone to translate one of your Games into German, i’m your man.

I really like Machiavelli’s Ascent, very pleasant ambiance. I was looking for some information on the nice piano theme of the welcome screen, author ?

Love the game. Its simple, it’s pretty, its cheap, its art. I have a nagging question though: whats the artist and song title to MA? I would love to download it.

Thanks to each of you guys! It really means a lot to Soufi and I to read your kind comments and it inspires us to continue.
Hakim, the menu/intro (the piano) music is actually just a bunch of garage band loops. I guess I would technically be the artist but really the work was done by whoever made the loops (maybe an Apple employee). I did the ‘gameplay’ music if that is the one you mean. Pretty soon (hopefully a few weeks) I’m going to try and put up an ‘art’ section on the main page (the ugly blank white one http://www.naturallyformedstudios.com) and I will include some of the game music and other artistic endeavors. Send us an e-mail at contact@naturallyformedstudios.com and I will see if I can send you the music.

Bugfix needed. Game does not save preferences;
ingame sounds are enerving – not as beautiful as the game deserves!
Icon could have some overhaul.

Thanks for your feedback, I take it this is for the iPhone version? We will get a bugfix out for that issue right away. Do you have any recommendations for the icon?
Thanks,
NFS

Hi! Yes. The iPhone version.
The icon looks very pale on the upper half. And maybe the jellyfish would look better without organs that clearly visible and colored. Also the Jellyfish is cut in a way that makes it look somewhat like a crossover in between a mushroom and a glassbowl with flowers and fruits.
(The black and white version on the first picture looks much better for my personal taste. Maybe the black could become exchanged with red and the water could become tinted light blue?)
I like Your little game and would love helping to improve it. Already gave 5 stars in german appstore.

What about the bugfix concerning the sound preferences?
December 16th, 2009 at 3:56 pm
Symbolist,
Bugfix will be submitted very soon (a week). We’re trying to further integrate with openfeint as well and want to combine both updates into one. Thanks for your patience and we promise it will be rewarded!

Merry Xmas to You and your family :.)

Symbolist,
Just thought I’d let you know that the game is in apple’s approval process as of a few days ago. Hope the holidays went well.

I was just wondering if you have any sheet music for the piece playing at the menu? The name of the piece and artist might do though.

Narelle,
The music is made by me. You can download the .mp3 from the media section.
The music is just loops from garage band. If you have access to it, it would be pretty easy to figure out the notes from the loops or use some kind of music analyzer, I know they have those now.
Hope all is well.
